Top Christmas Myths That You’ve Been Believing Blindly!

It’s almost time that people gear up for the much-awaited winter festivity- Christmas!
The joyous festival with a history of over 2,000 years has a number of myths related to it. The reason? People usually have no idea of the origin of certain traditions, so, they tend to believe what they hear from someone at some point in time. It makes no sense believing such statements.
So, here we are debunking 4 of the greatest Christmas myths to enlighten you!
Myth#1: Christmas is the most important Christian festival
Well, that’s what people think! Though the festival is full of great celebrations, glitzy decorations, crazy parties, soul-satisfying delicacies, presents and much more, it’s not the biggest celebration for the Christians.
Wondering what it is if it’s not Christmas?
Well, it’s the ever so delightful ‘Easter’!
The reason?
Easter is believed to commemorate Jesus’ rising from death into eternal life. His resurrection is strongly believed to have contained the promise of eternal life for all who are his believers.

Myth#2: Christmas trees were always a part of Christmas
Christmas trees being a part of Christmas since the very beginning is a myth. Though these evergreen trees were already popular in Pagan before Jesus’s birth, they didn’t symbolize Christmas until the Renaissance.
The German Protestants during Renaissance started this trend of bringing these evergreen trees home and decorating them for Christmas. The trend slowly spread to England and so on.

Myth#3: The term “Xmas” was adopted to take Christ out of Christmas
By no means was the festival abbreviated with ‘Xmas’ for taking Christ out of Christmas! In fact, ‘X’ in Greek means ‘chi’ which is the first letter in the Greek spelling of Christ. The letter ‘X’ in the abbreviation actually represents Jesus’ title, ‘Christ’.
So ‘X’ has been used by Christians as an abbreviation for ‘Christ’ and not for taking “Christ’ out of Christmas!

Myth#4: Santa Claus got his red attire from Coca-Cola ad campaign
This is yet another myth that has been clinging on to the Christian festival for quite a long time now. It is believed that Santa Claus got his bright red clothing from the Coca-Cola Company where he was portrayed with red clothing, big beard and a belt in their marketing.
The festival was celebrated far before then the ad campaign took place. So it’s a sheer myth! As a matter of fact, Santa had been portrayed almost exclusively in red from the early 19th century. Moreover, most of his modern image was portrayed by cartoonist Thomas Nast in the 1870s. So, there’s no point that the attire has its origin somewhere in the ad campaign.
